A real dowsing

Blackbirds come frequently to many gardens, but it is not easy to get a pleasingly posed photograph. It can be useful to place a suitable perch such as a worn log on the ground, or a broken branch of suitable size poked into the ground, near a source of food. With your camera focused at the top of the perch, wait until a Blackbird comes to it and poses suitably before it goes on to feed. This method can be used for many common garden birds.
